Connectors of Contrast

Source: www.theyuniversity.net
Contoh ‘connectors of contrast’: although, even if, though, even though, despite/in spite the fact that, however, nevertheless.
1) ‘Although’: berarti walaupun, meskipun.
Contoh:
  • Although you bought her an expensive gift, Tiara still haven’t forgiven you.
  • I’m still hungry although I just ate.
2) ‘Even if’: berarti sekalipun. ‘Even if’ digunakan jika kejadian tersebut masih di pikiran/belum dilakukan (berandai-andai).
Contoh:
  • Even if you bought her an expensive gift, Tiara still wouldn’t forgive you.
Contoh:
  • Though you bought her an expensive gift, Tiara still haven’t forgiven you.
  • I just ate, I’m still hungry though.
Contoh:
  • Even though you don’t like Mr. Rudi, you should try to be nice to him.
5) ‘Despite/in spite the fact that’: arti dan penggunaan sama dengan ‘although’.
Contoh:
  • Despite the fact that (In spite the fact that) you bought her an expensive gift, Tiara still haven’t forgiven you.
6) ‘However’: berarti bagaimanapun, biarpun, akan tetapi.
Contoh:
  • I can understand everything what you have said. However, I am totally against it.
Contoh:
  • The tortoise was much slower than the hare. Nevertheless, it won the race.
Ingat fellas, jika ‘although’, ‘even if’, ‘though’, ‘even though’, ‘despite/in spite the fact that’ digunakan untuk menggabungkan 2 kalimat menjadi 1 kalimat, ‘however’ digunakan untuk menghubungkan 2 kalimat yangg terpisah.
